Has anyone else seen those Burger King ads where they are introducing the Whopper to distant lands for the first time? The media section of the WSJ had their own take on it but to me it just seemed perverse. From Transsylvanians to Hmong tribe members, Burger King is documenting how these Whopper virgins are enjoying their new meal and then goes on to have them compare it with the Big Mac from McDonald's. I don't know if the term "nutritional terrorism" has ever been used before but this might be the time to start. It is almost embarrassing that of all the things we have to share with these cultures we are starting with our fast food; one of the culprits that has added to our girth and our poor health. Every time I see the ad I keep getting images of pilgrims giving the Native Americans blankets with smallpox on them.
