The summer meeting of the National Governor's Association just convened and with bipartisan agreement they tore into health and human services secretary, Kathleen Sebelius. The bottom line is that they don't want the cost of Obama's new health care program being swept under the rug. That rug is called Medicaid and their fear is that the federal government would demand each state pay for more and more people to get onto this broken system. Their fears are not unfounded as the new health care bills flying around call for putting more and more patients onto Medicaid. The governors are not stupid and realize that this would be an unfunded mandate and eventually crush their budget. They are right. I have said before that the whole SCHIP or Children’s Health Insurance Program was a "Trojan horse" (item #2) to eventually get universal health care and this proves it. The problem is that Obama and the government are so intent on getting health care for everyone that they are overlooking quality. The result is that the whole country will all end up with an expensive and unworkable albatross. Why? Doctors hate Medicaid. It pays like crap. There also isn't enough doctors to see all the new patients getting health insurance. There has to be new incentives to be a primary care doctor. And where the hell is the malpractice reform? I know Obama loves lawyers but this glaring omission speaks volumes.
