No, not that JC. What would the Joint Commission do if they had tons of extra money lying around? Well, why not create the Center for Transforming Healthcare, opened with $10 million in commission reserves. Reserves to them is basically pocket change found behind the sofa cushions. Starting with hand hygiene, the JC is positioning themselves to be an all-powerful safety Nazi. Joint Commission President Mark R. Chassin, MD, MPH said, "We can make health care safer. Not just a little safer, but a lot safer." You know what that means? Expect new rules with little data or evidence backing them up. By holding hospitals hostage, the JC knows they can do basically whatever they want. The more safety rules they make, the more they are needed to enforce them. And that only means one thing to them: mo' money, mo' money, mo' money!
Some other rules I can see them coming up with:
- Stethoscopes must be fully dipped in antibacterial baths between patient visits.
- No shaking hands or hugging patients....ever!
- All hospital staff must be devoid of pubic hair.
- All neck ties must be attached to the wearer by both ends.
- All hospital staff must wear hair nets.
Got any others?
