Research Debate

President Obama announced he is giving out $5 billion in new government grants to fight cancer, autism, and heart disease while boosting the economy. This will support 12,000 existing projects and "create thousands of jobs over the next two years for researchers, educators, and medical equipment makers and suppliers". Obviously I like the idea of more money going into the medical field but I am biased. The Prez keeps finding more and more cash from somewhere. I was just wondering when that will run out. Usually, in the past, the pharmaceutical industry would financially support the research. They would then create new drugs and this would not come out of taxpayers' wallets. Admittedly, they blew it all by charging too much for their products and price gouging. I am still wondering whether Obama's plan of continuously handing out cash is the right way to go? This is the huge debate of capitalism versus socialism. As Margaret Thatcher once said, "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. "
