A proposal to the Senate health care bill by two Democrats would effectively ban pharmaceutical data mining. This is where the drug company buys prescription records to target sales pitches to doctors. If we physicians were smart we would support this amendment and then form a cooperative to do it ourselves. Then we could mine our own data and sell it to whomever wants it and make money off ourselves. Each doctor that joins the PDMC (Physician Data Mining Cooperative) would get a share and the profits are split amongst its members at the end of the year. Everyone else is making money off what we do so why shouldn't we?
