Many of you know that we have a section in the print Placebo Journal with the same name as you see above. Munchausen patients are scary and cost the system thousands of dollars each. I have been doing this job for a long time as well as writing the journal so I have become pretty attuned to questionable stories. When Bethany Storro of Vancouver came out with the story that she was hit in the face with acid, I became suspicious. I had earmarked a link a couple of days ago wanting to blog about these suspicions but other things came up. Now I was beaten to the punch because our little acid freak just fessed up. Something never seemed right about a perpetrator carrying acid in a cup with Storro coincidentally wearing sunglasses at night, which she had just purchased. Oprah had scheduled her to show up and talk about her story but they cancelled her. Another bad sign because Oprah has been burned before (no pun intended) and her intelligence team does better work than the CIA.
I do not really feel bad for Storro. She cost a lot of money and wasted a lot of people's time to get attention. She also put her blame on a black woman which is always nice for race relations. Other than being a religious attention getter, I really haven't seen anything printed about her background. I can almost guarantee that she has a pattern of doing things like this in the past. I guarantee that she somehow worked in the medical field at one time or another. Due to HIPAA, we won't know it all but she probably has doctor shopped and ER hopped for many years with even weirder stories. Before we feel too sorry for Bethany, the sad thing is that she will do it again but just not as high profile. Why, you ask? Because that's what Munchausens do.
