In the October issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association there is a study showing that almost 40 percent of the kids' calories comes from solid fat and added sugars.
Half of the "empty calories" came from these six foods: soda, fruit drinks, dairy desserts, grain desserts, pizza and whole milk. The reason our kids eat this stuff, not discussed in the article, is that they taste good and they are cheap. Empty calories are cheap calories supported with subsidies by our government who promote high fructose corn syrup and mass production of food......to our detriment. The moral is that cheap is not always good.
