Why I Am a Bad Businessman

We do offer free samples of the Placebo Journal on the home page of the website. Sometimes, I peruse the database to find out how people heard about us. One person had an interesting source and I decided to mess with his head a little bit. Here was an email I sent out to that person:

Michael,

It has come to my attention that you want a free sample of the Placebo Journal because "A surgeon gave a lecture and mentioned your magazine". Sorry, we do not give free samples to people who lie and since I have never met a surgeon with a sense of humor there is no way you are telling the truth.

Please explain yourself....with references.

Thank you,

Douglas Farrago MD
Editor
Placebo Journal

Expecting him to get the joke, I was surprised when I received this:

Well,
Here are you references: the "SURGEON" was Dr. Jeff XXXXX. He spoke at XXXX COM on 10/26/10 from 8am eastern to 10am eastern. His lecture was on the indications for endoscopy. If you need further proof I could send you a link to the audio and visuals for this lecture where he describes your magazine. I find it rather rude for you to call me a "LIAR" and in all honesty, I had your subscription card filled out for myself and for a present to my sister. As of now I will be shredding these instead. The reason why I was requesting your "free" sample was solely because your website advertised it blatantly.
Thanks but no thanks.
Michael XXXXX

I responded:

Michael,
You do understand I was joking, right?
Doug

And Michael's last response?

No thanks. Good day sir.

Maybe he wasn't a good fit for the Placebo Journal, huh? Anyway, now you know why I am such a bad businessman.
