The Obesity Contagion

Chalk this one up as another ridiculous study that the media loves to take a bite into. Here is the headline from the article in the USA Today:

Obesity is contagious among friends, study suggests.

Really? C'mon, now. Even the last two words should make people doubt the legitimacy of the first five. When researchers claim that their study "suggests" something it means they really couldn't prove much and are now starting to pull things out of their proverbial arse. Basically what the authors are saying is that if you keep hanging out with obese people you will eat more and start becoming obese yourself. Maybe. Sounds intuitive and not that exciting. My issue is when the media makes obesity into a contagion causing everyone become fearful and run to the hills...and start eating some more.
