We have heard the rumors. We have seen the sci-fi movies. We just never thought it really could happen. Well, it did. In Europe, seven people were accused of trafficking kidneys through a clinic in Kosovo. The leader of the whole thing - a surgeon! The whole story is nasty and includes victim recruitment, false promises of payments, extreme poverty, multiple countries, a Kosovan surgeon, a Turkish doctor, a private clinic, and a kidney in a pear tree. I always wonder how low a doctor would have to get to turn away from any ethics of his or her profession. This may be it.
