What decisions and how much judgment can we expect from physicians? We currently have arguments going on about the “end of life” counseling. Once it was accepted that physicians were reasonably intelligent and had at least some common sense. Our founding fathers even included
physicians because they had a little more education and were assumed to be reasonably intelligent (e.g. Benjamin Rush M.D.). Every politician today seems to think he or she knows best how and what physicians should discuss with their patients. This only widens the gap between physicians and their patients.
