Hickies

The first stroke via a hickey was recently described in the literature. Pretty amazing stuff.
A 44-year-old New Zealander found that she couldn't move her left arm while she was watching TV and work-up at the hospital supposedly found a clot in the artery beneath the hickey on her neck. The article goes on with this quote by the neurologist, Dr Wu:

"The clot had gone into the woman's heart and caused a minor stroke that led to the loss of movement", he said.

Once again, I am not the smartest physician around but I thought arteries in the neck COME from the heart and then go to the brain. They then go back to the heart via veins. Was I taught wrong? Is there no such thing as the Circle of Willis? I don't know what to believe now. Are we living in a world where anatomy is changing and vampires actually exist (and give hickeys)? I am so confused.
