There was a band in the 1980s called Erasure that somehow was an offshoot of the band Yaz but that has nothing to do with this blog entry. It is just fun to bring these things up as I get older. Anyway, the big controversy over "quality" pay for teachers is that some schools have been found to make such a drastic improvement that authorities are now getting skeptical. Further investigation found that the amount of "erasures" or changed answers, from wrong to right, was very high in the these schools. Could it be that the teachers were changing the test answers at a later time? Are teachers more worried about their bonus pay than actually teaching and therefore gaming the system? Time will tell as the investigation continues but what does that have to do with medicine. Everything. Could it be that doctors will worry more about their bonus pay for bogus quality measures than actually treating patients? I say yes.
