In a well thought out study, it was concluded that patients who are prescribed higher doses of opioid painkiller drugs (such as Oxycontin or Vicodin) are at increased risk of death from overdose than those given lower doses. Really? I am sure glad JAMA was able to publish this one. I knew there was a reason I throw it out as soon as it comes in the mail. Next on the agenda - a study showing a direct relationship between the number of women widowed to the number of women whose husbands have died.
The mission of this blog is to connect us back to the roots of medicine. It is about fighting back against those things that are taking us away from the direct care of patients while still pointing out the lunacy and hypocrisy of this job.
