This came from one of our Placebians.:
At first I thought this might be a late April Fools joke, but no, it's true, an Irish group has found that drinking excessively the day before surgery leads to poorer performance. Who would have thought?

My favorite quotes from the lay article that led me to the study:
"Historically, the medical profession has had a reputation for high rates of alcohol consumption," OK...
"It is likely that surgeons are unaware that next-day surgical performance may be compromised as a result of significant alcohol intake." Really?
"Abstinence from alcohol the night before operating may be a sensible consideration for practicing surgeons," MAY!?!?
Should it take a study to determine that binge drinking the day before performing surgery leads to poor performance? The author is Irish, he probably needed some thorough convincing*.
*Disclaimer: That one did not come from me - Doug
