Putting Idiots In Charge

This came from one of our Placebians. It seems Florida has passed a bill prohibiting doctors from asking patients if they own a gun. OMG. That is what happens when extremists are put in charge of anything. It also begs a lot of questions about legality. As the contributor who sent it to me said:

"This is absolutely crazy, not to mention a violation of first amendment rights...although it would seem to me that the exception granted: ""Doctors would be permitted to ask questions about guns in cases where they feel it's directly relevant to the patient's care or the safety of others"" would give a little bit of an out; ie, it's always relevant to the patient's health in a pediatrician's case, or for any psychiatric patient."

Am I wrong in thinking that my freedom of speech, as a physician, is being violated here?
