The death of New York Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard, found on the floor of his apartment, was ruled an accident. The cause? He was mixing alcohol and oxycodone. That, my friends, is really no accident. I am not saying he tried to kill himself but it makes it seem that Boogard, or Heath Ledger, had no role in the matter. The fact is that both had admitted drug habits. Boogard had been through rehab many times. Instead of blaming Boogard, the media and team is saying this overdose was accidental which kind of sanitizes the whole issue. Even better his agent wants to blame the doctors. Here is what he said:
"I do think these pain meds get prescribed way too easily," Salcer said. "Athletes, hockey players, deal with a lot of pain and injuries and want to get through them. There just has to be more education before they get prescribed. That is what concerns me."
