More P4P for 2012? by Pat Conrad MD

Hot diggity, the pre-primaries are underway. Shuffling out of the gate with "EHR" Newt and "Connector" Mitt, is Tim Pawlenty, with a fun, innovative approach to care. Quickly distancing himself from the Medicare reform of the Ryan Budget, Pawlenty is working to stay in the good graces of media, and easily frightened seniors in Iowa.

What is his exciting, new approach? You guessed it: tired old Pay For Performance.

Not so fun, not innovative, the results will be predictable. This may be a political winner, but in real life it will remain a guaranteed loser.
