Archives of Dermatology just came out with a study showing that the higher a person's vitamin D levels, the higher the risk of non-melanoma skin cancer, such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Really? I am not so sure. The study shows no actual causation and just makes note of some observed variables. Yes, overdoing the sun can give you high Vit D levels and those "overdoers" are at risk because, well, they are "overdoers". But let's not confuse patients anymore. These dermatologists just need to stop with the big bad sun thing. It is getting old. You do an important job. You just don't save lives (maybe a very, very rare case). But you do make a ridiculous amount of money with nary a day of call in your whole lives. Be happy and let it go.
