Six primary care doctors in Georgia are suing to break up the relationship between the CMS (gov't) and the RUC (AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee). This is the secret group of 29 members, of which 23 are specialists, who decide how much each medical visit and procedure gets paid. They give their advice to the government which subsequently trickles down to the insurance companies. And they have been undervaluing the services that primary care gives forever. The suit claims that the relationship is illegal and not transparent. Finally, family doctors with a big set of balls! I love it. Now, what did the AAFP do about this? They could have chosen to put their weight behind it but instead....wait for it.......decided to...wait.....form a task force! Wow, impressive.
