The mission of this blog is to connect us back to the roots of medicine. It is about fighting back against those things that are taking us away from the direct care of patients while still pointing out the lunacy and hypocrisy of this job.

The Boomer Scramble
I couldn't wait to show you this one. In a riveting piece, USA Today hits our hearts hard with a title called "Many Boomers scrambling to eat". Now put your common sense hats on. We are a country of obese people. We got that way by............eating. One lady interviewed and pictured is "learning how to cut her meals and stretch her food stamps". Now you HAVE to look at the linked article. What is wrong with that picture? For one, she is obese. Second, she is smoking! They even go back to this lady for more sympathy quotes at the end of the article. I am not trying to belittle people. I am just pointing out the facts. This whole "food insecurity" term is bullshit. It is totally homogenized, made up, and means nothing. In fact, they reference that between 2007 and 2009 there was a 63% increase in food insecurity among 40- to 49-year-olds and a 37% increase for those between 50 and 59. Really? Then why is a third of adults in America obese and over half overweight. And if you are going to put out a piece about the hardships of not having a job in tough economic times then I get that but don't use a smoker ($7 to $15 a day!) who needs foodstamps to keep up her BMI of 35 plus.
