Check out this nice article in USA Today about the denial rates for people trying to get health insurance. Talk about lowlife companies. They routinely deny 20% of people for ridiculous and simple health problems (or sometimes no health problems at all). Or, worse, get them to buy a more expensive policy. Maybe the new Health Care act will help this crap but somehow I doubt it. These companies are looking for any excuse or method to squeeze more bucks out of us. Does this mean I want socialized health care for all of us? No. It wouldn't work because it would bankrupt our system even more (story for another rant). I just want better competition amongst these insurers so their prices fall. I want to see an annoying commercial that says "15 minutes will save you 15% on your health insurance". Until then, we doctors need to be careful about ANY diagnosis put in our patients' charts because it can and will be used against them.
